WEST CITY STREET/WATER/SEWER DEPARTMENT

The Village of West City Street/Water/Sewer Department is currently comprised of one Superintendent, Dale Watkins; one full-time employee, Alan Carlton; two hard-working part-time employees and one cheerful office clerk, Jeannie Bragg.

The office of the Street and Utility Department is located on South Central Street across from the Village Hall. The necessary equipment used to keep our Village in top shape, consists of one backhoe, one road grader, three (3) dump trucks, one service truck, one sewer jet machine and several pieces of mowing equipment.

STREETS
We have an excellent system of streets, consisting of either paved concrete or asphalt. As our Mayor likes to point out "You can roller skate on any West City Street". In 2002 we repaired sidewalks and installed ADA ramps at various intersections. In the summer months, our department spends a great deal of time mowing, cleaning and sweeping the many lawns, curbs and gutters in our village. At other times they plant shrubs, trees and flowers. Mosquito and insect spraying takes place several times a week. With the first snowfall, our Street Department can be seen at any hour of day or night cleaning snow from our streets. At Christmas-time they install trees, lights, banners and pole designs. They also place flags along our two main streets in honor of 9-11 and our many Holidays.

WATER
Our water supply, like most municipalities in our area, comes from Rend Lake Conservancy District Inter-City Water System. West City's water supply system is a relatively new system made up of eight (8) inch and six (6) inch water lines. We have a 100,000-gallon water tower. Any breaks or problems are given top priority in our work schedule. Our major concern is to keep water flowing uninterrupted to our Village residents. This is a continuous process, which our Water Department takes seriously.

SEWER
Our West City Sewer system has eight (8) sewage pump stations. In 2002, we upgraded three pump stations, and have plans to work on two more in the near future. The workability and safety of our pump stations is crucial to our sewer system. Our department is also qualified to operate a two cell aerated lagoon. Our Waste-Water Treatment facility was established in 1994 on ten (10) acres just north of the Village.

The Village of West City has come a long way in the last years, with the advent of Interstate 57, and our business and retail growth. This transformation could not have been accomplished without the hard work and dedication of the West City Street and Utility Department.
