The elected Mayor of the Village of West City serves as Police Commissioner.

The West City Police Department has four (4) full time Police Officers, and four (4) part-time Officers. We also have one full time secretary/E-911 dispatcher, three (3) other full time E-911 dispatchers and four (4) part-time E-911 dispatchers.

Although our population is only 725 residents, we have thousands of vehicles coming through our Village each day, due to our location on Interstate 57. Many of these visitors come to the Rend Lake Plaza to shop at our many businesses or dine at our various restaurants. We have many visitors coming through our village on the way to Rend Lake, located about five (5) miles north of West City. There are as many as four (4) million people visiting Rend Lake and the surrounding area each year.

The West City Police Department has numerous duties to perform. Our number one priority is protecting and serving the residents, businesses and many visitors in our Village.

We have received several certificates citing our Department of our many DUI arrests. M.A.D.D. has also donated a video camera to be used in our squad cars. At this time we have five (5) police cars. We also have an AED machine that our officers have been trained to use. Our Police Dispatcher are well trained as required by State and Federal law, in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Telephone Device for Deaf (TDD), and E-911. For a small community, our police force is well prepared.

Our officers are diligent, trustworthy and fair. We are proud of our West City Police Department.
